My head was partially shaved before the pandemic, and when we went into lockdown, I was forced to shave my head for the first time.
When I made the first pass with the clippers, a swath of hair slowly cascaded onto the bathroom countertop. I touched the coils of hair, and they were so soft and curly. Suddenly, I was flooded by flashbacks of being teased about my hair as a child.
Despite the terrible things that were said, I’ve always loved my hair.
